I dug out my clarinet this afternoon and thought I’d see if I still remembered anything I used to know. Katherine watched with interest (a clarinet is shiny, after all), but when I started to make a few sounds she looked at me and broke out into a slow, sad cry that escalated into a howl. After repeated reassurances and experiments with distance, range, and volume–the crying continued–I gave up.

Our dog used to do that to you too, remember? I know its been awhile since you’ve played, but I’m sure the howling has nothing to do with your abilities 😉

I definitely remember Grace barking–I thought of that when I saw Katherine. Hilarious as Grace’s accompaniment was, Katherine’s was pitiful!
As a side note, Arwyn responds to my playing by trying to crawl in my lap. She wants both comfort and to get a better position from which to examine that sound!
