A Different Kind of Book Recommendation

Bubble Trouble, by Margaret Mahy, has to be one of the best children’s books I’ve ever read.  How could you not love a book with lines like this:

“Oh, what calculated catchwork!  Baby bounced into the patchwork,

where his grizzles turned to giggles and to wriggles of delight!

And the people stared dumbfounded as he bobbled and rebounded,

till the baby boy was grounded and his mother held him tight.”

Thanks, Mom, for uncovering such a gem!

Glad it’s a gem – I heard it recommended on NPR.

I get great looks from her when reading that book. Besides, it’s a great way of turning her into an Anglophile early on, with the references to Nevilles, post boxes, and the like. We’ll have her spelling “colour” and “honour” and all sorts of things that will cause trouble in grade school!

    Oh, that sounds so delightful!

So great! I love baby books that are just as enjoyable for mom and dad. 🙂
