Katherine’s thorough report

Katherine was very excited about nursery all summer, so I was interested to see what she thought of things now that she’s been attending for a couple of weeks.

“Katherine, do you like nursery?  Do you like playing there?”

“I like eating there.”

That’s more informative than most of her answers to my questions.  She regularly affirms that she likes going, and that she prefers going to nursery to staying home all the time, but when I ask her what she had for lunch or what she did in a given day she responds, “I don’t know.”

Oh no! Could it be that they’re giving her some unidentifiable, processed, not-too-healthy food and she’s coming to like their taste?!

Not at this nursery. In Oxford I think they’d be shunned if they didn’t do the fresh, made-on-site style of food. Other than a bit too much pasta/rice for my taste (which, I admit, makes it easier for the kids to feed themselves), the food looks pretty decent. Katherine says she prefers our food, but she likes that she gets to eat AND play there.

Ah, I see. That’s great. I’m sure that you consciously try to feed them less carbs at home on their nursery days. 🙂 I’m proud of Katherine and the Penner chefs for making her prefer home food! Several years of hard work and training!
